frame & grammar is a creative space that explores the systems, instruments, and disciplines through which meaning is made and sustained

We believe that every meaningful creative work begins long before it is written, filmed, designed, or rendered. It begins with judgment: the ability to observe clearly, think coherently, and make deliberate decisions with intention.

frame & grammar exists to study the principles that govern those decisions. Our work explores the structures beneath narrative, image, motion, and visual communication, not to replace creative judgment, but to preserve it. We are interested in the systems that allow ideas to remain coherent from their first conception through their final expression.&

Rather than beginning with software, trends, or technologies, we begin with first principles. We believe that tools should serve authorship, not define it; that coherence is earned through disciplined thinking; and that restraint is not the absence of expression, but the deliberate curation of it.

The result is an evolving body of work that spans creative philosophy, visual systems, narrative research, and the instruments through which those ideas are practiced. Some of those instruments take the form of software. Others exist as methods, writings, experiments, and observations. None exist to replace the author. They exist to preserve the author's capacity to think, choose, and create with clarity.

Daniel Tesfaye has spent two decades at the intersection of film, design, motion, VFX, systems design, and cinematic storytelling. frame & grammar is the culmination of that inquiry.
